This document on SOIL PREPARATION is intended for sugarcane producers in Colombia, particularly farmers in the Cauca River Valley who supply raw material to sugar mills.

Its purpose is to contribute to the sustainable development of the sugarcane agroindustry by disseminating technical criteria for decision-making regarding agricultural mechanization, based on knowledge of the soil and its relationship to tillage.

Tillage or soil preparation is the sequence of agricultural tasks performed to prepare the soil so that plants can utilize water, air, and nutrients. In this document, we refer only to soil preparation for planting vegetative sugarcane seeds in the Cauca River Valley.
