More than 3.800 children, youth and adults in Valle del Cauca are receiving high-quality education at the Integral Training Center of Ingenio Providencia, an agro-industrial company that has promoted sustainable development through 'Sustainable Sweetness', a strategy focused on preservation of natural resources and support for the agricultural sector.
According to the latest report from the Valle del Cauca agro-industrial company, which covers the 2018-2019 period, through the Sustainable Sweetness program, the beneficiaries attend basic, technical, commercial and higher education programs in a comprehensive training center, in the that, through a varied number of methodological strategies and large investments in its physical plant, have turned the classrooms into smart classrooms, which allow one to approach Information and Communication Technologies.
Between 2018 and 2019, Ingenio Providencia indicated that 4.625 people received education in this comprehensive training center, turning "projected dreams into reality, with great social impact that generates well-being in the area of influence."
Also, in order to strengthen its relationship with neighboring communities and thus contribute to their sustainable development, Ingenio Providencia launched four social investment projects, based on the most acute needs of the target population: education, connectivity, strengthening leadership and environmental education.
Through Providencia Educa, Providencia Conecta, the School of Leaders for a Sustainable Valley and Schools in the Park, this company from Valle del Cauca has been supporting the communities of the region with scholarships, technological endowments, diplomas and seminars, in order to promote no only the economic development of these, but also the social and educational training.
“The capacity that we have developed in Providencia to grow and transform ourselves agilely, added to its unique internal culture of warmth, teamwork and passion for what we do, as well as our closeness to customers, have become key success factors for to position ourselves as an increasingly relevant player in the Colombian sugar sector, ”said the company's manager, Vicente Borrero Calero.
Understanding that the sustainability of the operation is the contribution that companies make to a higher objective such as the sustainable development of the territory, Ingenio Providencia seeks to improve the living conditions of its stakeholders through the contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals, covering topics such as health and wellness; quality education, clean water and sanitation, affordable and non-polluting energy, decent work and economic growth, responsible production and consumption, climate action, life on earth's ecosystems, peace, justice and strong institutions and alliances to achieve goals.
For this reason, this company also works in the preservation of about 425 hectares of forest reserve in the Providencia Ecological Park, which is part of the Amaime River forest reserve and the Piedechinche farm, where the Sugar Cane Museum is located. .
In total there are 425 hectares destined to the conservation of 30 water sources and 644 species of native flora and fauna. Also, through Asocaña, Ingenio Providencia is part of the Fundación Fondo Agua por la Vida y la Sostenibilidad, which is the most important watershed conservation program in the country, which protects, restores and conserves 26 watersheds in 29 municipalities of the National territory.
All of the above is part of this sustainability program, which has earned Ingenio Providencia the Bonsucro certification, as well as being worthy of various awards and recognitions.
As a platform for all these sustainability projects, Ingenio Providencia has one of the largest certified organic cane crops in Colombia, which is the basis of the project with which they provide their consumers with natural products. In these, the company uses green fertilizers (cowpea beans) as a source of hydrogen, as well as certified organic fertilizers, which in 1999 made it the first producer in Colombia of Organic Sugar.
For all this, Ingenio Providencia is known as the Green Mill of Colombia.
