Within the framework of the 'Climate and Colombian agricultural sector' agreement, last Tuesday, December 2, the Perspectives of Colombian Agriculture Facing Climate Change forum was held.
Representatives of the cereals and sugarcane sectors, the National University, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) and the Tropical Agriculture Research Center (CIAT) met in a forum to discuss the perspectives of agriculture Colombia against climate change.
The meeting was held to socialize the technologies and projects of productive sectors such as rice and sugar cane, which are key to adapting crops to climate variability and climate change.
It is important to mention that since 2013 between the MADR and CIAT there is an agreement 'Climate and Colombian agricultural sector' with the purpose of strengthening the adaptation capacity of agriculture to variability and climate change and formulating mitigation measures that allow agriculture to be sustainable.
“In Valle del Cauca we have a great background that farmers must take advantage of to face the challenges posed by the climate and thus improve productivity. That is why this initiative to integrate projects from different productive sectors is very well received, ”said Francisco José Lourido, president of the Valle del Cauca Farmers and Livestock Society (SAG).
The forum took place last Tuesday, December 2 at CIAT and was attended by technical assistants and researchers.
