Sociedad de Agricultores de Colombia (SAC) grants Order of Agricultural Merit to Cenicaña

The recognition was delivered during the XXVIII National Agrarian Congress that was held on November 12 and 13 in Villavicencio.

The Society of Farmers of Colombia (SAC) awarded the Colombian Sugar Cane Research Center (Cenicaña) the Order of Agricultural Merit in recognition of its work in research, technological development and technology transfer, with which it has contributed to the competitiveness and sustainability of the sugarcane agroindustry and Colombian agriculture.

Cenicaña is a private, non-profit corporation that is financed with direct donations from 13 sugar mills and about 3000 sugar cane growers located in the Cauca river valley, where, for 38 years, the Research Center has carried out important contributions to the development of the productive sector and the sustainability of agribusiness.

“Cenicaña, with the support of the mills and cane growers, has contributed to obtaining the highest productivity of cane and sugar in the world, thus showing that the union of efforts and joint work generates an impact when it is one of the investment in science is the cornerstone of its development ”, states the resolution.

Likewise, the SAC highlighted that Cenicaña shares its technological developments with the national panelero sector and has been a reference for the creation of various agricultural research centers in Colombia, such as Cenibanano, Cenipalma and Ceniacua, and sugar research centers in other countries, such as Guatemala and Ecuador.

Cenicaña has more than 200 collaborators, including 12 professionals with doctorates, 22 with masters and 38 with undergraduate degrees, the majority dedicated to research in the areas of genetic improvement, biotechnology, soil and water management, industrial processes and technology transfer, among others.
