Between May 22 and 27, a technical tour to Brazil was carried out with the aim of expanding knowledge of the handling of cane borers. telchin licus y Diatraea spp.

The tour included consulting with Alexandre de Sene Pinto, PhD in Entomology and professor at the Moura Lacerda University Center and founding partner of BUG Agentes Biológicos SA, and visits to the companies Biocontrol and BUG Agentes Biológicos to learn about their experiences in breeding cotesia flavipes y Trichogrammarespectively.

Additionally, a visit was made to the Pragisa Pastorile Agrícola SA sugar mill to learn about the management of the giant borer telchin licus.

The tour was organized by Cenicaña and 8 sugar mills and 5 Colombian suppliers of biological inputs participated in it.

Second Maturation Committee 2016

On June 9, the Maturation Committee met for the second time in 2016, where the mills presented their experiences with the CC 01-1940 variety and, by Cenicaña, the use of unmanned vehicles (drones) in the application of ripeners.

Likewise, a group of mills took stock of maturation in 2015.

On this occasion, representatives from the Pichichí, Riopaila-Castilla, Mayagüez, Providencia, La Cabaña Risaralda and Incauca mills attended. The next Committee meeting will be in September. 

Cenicaña expands knowledge on ethanol

Characterization of agricultural crop residues, biomass pretreatment by means of steam explosion and saccharification and fermentation schemes were some of the topics in which a professional from Cenicaña was trained at Pennsylvania State University, USA, in order to advance in a research project on the production of second-generation ethanol from hydrolyzates from sugar cane residues.

The training was part of the Norman E. Borlaug scholarship that recognized in the research proposal presented by Cenicaña an opportunity to promote economic growth in developing countries.

Tatiana Daza, Cenicaña's industrial microbiologist, was one of the 50 professionals from different countries who received the scholarship.

SIC clarified doubts about Decree 1595

In order to define the agribusiness commitments with the new provisions of the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC) in relation to legal metrology, Cenicaña organized an academic conference with the participation of 12 mills and representatives of the SIC.

The meeting emphasized the modifications to section 14 of Decree 1074 of 2015 contemplated in Decree 1595 of 2015. The regulations, among other topics, determine the functions of the actors of the quality infrastructure, establish improvements to the production of regulations technical and strengthens the control functions of the SIC.

The event took place on June 10 in Cenicaña.
