Sugar cane spittle Aeneolamia varies (F.) (Hemiptera: Cercopidae) Habits, biology and population management

Introduction

the spittle a. varies It is distributed in Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago and Colombia. In Colombia it was recorded more than 40 years ago. It is established as a pest of pastures for livestock in the foothills of the Orinoquia and Amazonia, in the departments of Casanare, Meta and Caquetá (Posada, 1989; Peck, 2001). In 2007 it was detected in sugar cane planted for the production of panela in the municipality of Anapoima in Cundinamarca and in Oiba, Santander, and in the sugar zone located between Buga, Mediacanoa, Tuluá and Riofrío in the Valle del Cauca (Goméz, 2007); in 2011 its displacement to the municipalities of Bolívar and Bugalagrande had been confirmed.
