Required: Research Assistant in Genetic Improvement

Work description: 

The Colombian Sugarcane Research Center is seeking an agricultural engineer to join the Variety Program, Genetic Improvement Area, for the projects "1. Genetic Improvement of Populations and 2. Maintenance and Characterization of the Germplasm Bank." This position offers an excellent career opportunity and professional growth for the selected researcher. The researcher will be part of a multidisciplinary group of plant breeders, entomologists, plant pathologists, and molecular biologists whose objective is the production of sugarcane varieties with high productivity, yield, and profitability.

Purpose of the charge

Support the formulation and execution of research projects in the area of ​​improvement, within the variety research program, aimed at timely addressing needs that contribute to the sustainability of the sugarcane agroindustrial sector.

Requirements:

  • Agricultural engineer with a specialization in genetic improvement, knowledge of genetics, floral biology, and conservation of true seeds.
  • Minimum experience of 1 years in design, establishment and monitoring of field trials under abiotic stresses.
  • Knowledge of design of experiments and analysis of statistical data. Programming experience for data analysis in SAS and R environment.
  • It is desirable to have experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Coordination and communication skills are required (spoken and written)

Technical knowledge in:

  • Experimental designs
  • Information analysis
  • Intermediate office tools.
  • Handling statistical packages (R, SAS)
  • QGIS handling is desirable according to the area
  • Desirable Software for Bibliographic Reference
  • Report writing
  • Scientific writing
  • Oral presentations
  • Reference database management

General Information

  • Work hours: Monday to Friday from 7:00 am – 4:00 pm
  • Includes transportation en route from Cali or Palmira to the experimental station
