Technical Assistance Program, PAT, is preparing to start training

Currently, work is being done on the validation of the material that will be used in the first training phase of the technical assistants of the mills.

With five topics, the training plan that includes the Technical Assistance Program, PAT, for mills in the region, will begin in the second semester of 2013.

The PAT, a strategy led by Cenicaña with the aim of increasing the level of adoption of the technology available in the sugar sector, began this year with its socialization in the mills, since these will be in charge of executing it through their technical assistants.

According to Camilo Isaacs, head of Cenicaña's Technical Cooperation and Technology Transfer Service, the Center works with its researchers on the final edition of 17 methodological guides that will be the fundamental tool for technical assistants to become trainers and teach in technologies and issues required by suppliers to make a better agronomic management of the crop.

There will also be material related to factory processes, with which it is intended to support professionals in this area of agribusiness.

Currently, a validation process is being carried out in which the researchers - authors make the guides available to professionals in the sector so that they can evaluate whether the proposed content, exercises and activities are suitable for training trainers in the different topics. Once this process is completed, the final review and printing of the material will be carried out. It is expected that by the second semester of this year, five guides will be ready (see box) to start the first phase of training.

Meanwhile, with the mills, progress is being made in the collection of basic data to characterize the adoption of technologies in the production units of direct management and supply, which is one of the components of the Technical Assistance Program.
