Vale do Paraná, a subsidiary of Manuelita in partnership with Pantaleón de Guatemala, is the first mill among 370 ethanol producers in Brazil to obtain the 100% RenovaBio sustainability certification of the area grown in sugarcane.
- Renovabio is a policy of the Brazilian federal government that seeks to promote the production of biofuels to replace those of fossil origin, and thus contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases, according to the goals acquired by that country in the COP21 agreement in Paris.
- This certification will allow Vale do Paraná to commercialize CO2 emission reduction certificates (CBIOs) in Brazil from January 2020.
Manuelita, through its sugar-alcohol subsidiary Vale do Paraná, is the first among 370 ethanol producers in Brazil to reach 100% of the area grown in sugarcane, the RenovaBio sustainability certification. This certification accredits your sustainable ethanol manufacturing process, and gives you an energy efficiency rating. For every ton of CO2 you stop emitting,
RenovaBio will grant a CBio, which can be traded in the carbon bond market in Brazil from January 2020.
“Reaching the RenovaBio certification is a guarantee seal for our clients in Brazil and internationally, by proving that our manufacturing processes meet the highest standards of environmental sustainability,” says Harold Eder, president of Manuelita.
To achieve this certification, Vale do Paraná demonstrated that it meets all the criteria required by the Brazilian National Biofuels Policy to evaluate energy efficiency and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. It also verifies that there is no deforestation in sugarcane cultivation areas, and that all areas in production are suitable for cultivation. "RenovaBio reaffirms our commitment to deliver high-quality, environmentally friendly products to the market," Eder added.
