Research areas in Cenicaña

Cenicaña promotes technological innovation in sugar cane mills and growers in the region, managing research and development projects in accordance with the strategic planning of the productive sector.

To do this, Cenicaña has three research programs and four specialized services:

Investigation programs

Varieties. Its mission is to obtain varieties that express their genetic potential in specific environments and that improve the productivity and profitability of commercial sugarcane plantations in the Cauca River Valley.

Agronomy. Its mission is to improve the productivity, profitability and quality of sugarcane by developing technology required for crop management, preserving natural resources.

Factory Processes. Its mission is to contribute to the improvement of the manufacturing processes that are developed in the Colombian sugar sector following the principles of environmental sustainability, technological optimization and economic profitability.

Specialized services

Technical Cooperation and Technology Transfer (SCTT). Its mission is to promote technological innovation in the agribusiness sector of the sugarcane of Colombia in order to increase the adoption of sustainable practices in the productive units, through the participation of producers and researchers in the management of communication, the knowledge transfer and technology validation.

Information and Documentation of Sugar Cane (SEICA). Its mission is to support the research of the Center, providing researchers and staff linked to the sugar sector with the bibliographic information necessary to carry out their projects and activities.

Economic and Statistical Analysis (SAEE). Its mission is to provide information in probabilistic terms and methodologies of economic and statistical analysis to support decision making in research and production, in order to contribute to the development of the sugar sector and improve technical and productive efficiency, profitability and competitiveness of Agroindustrial processes

Information Technology (SETI).. Its mission is to define, facilitate and maintain a computer infrastructure aligned with the Center's strategic objectives, with an efficient, high-level technological platform that guarantees system security.

Support

Superintendence of the Experimental Station. Its mission is to provide logistical support for the normal development of Cenicaña's research experiments, through the provision of adequate spaces, competent field workers and functional teams.
