Biological control of spittlebug Aeneolamia varies (F.) (Hemiptera: Cercopidae). use of the mushroom Metarhikum anisopliae (Metsch.) Sorokin

Introduction

In several countries in Central and South America, there are different species of spittlebugs that attack sugar cane and pastures used for livestock farming.

To control pest populations and prevent crop damage, farmers periodically apply biological products based on the fungus. Metarhikum anisopliae (Metsch.) Sorokin.

In Colombia, the efficiency of this fungus for the control of spittlebugs Aeneolamia avaria (F.) (Hemiptera: Cercopidae) was discovered by Cenicaña in research funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
