Humidity groups (GH)

Moisture groups identify areas where similar levels of excess or deficit moisture occur in the soil.

For the classification of the area into humidity groups, the regional hydrological balance calculated for the cultivation of sugar cane was taken into account, together with the information from the detailed soil studies on the permeability of the soil, the slope of the terrain, the presence of water table and its depth and the presence of signs of poor drainage and its depth (gleaming and mottled).

In the calculation of the hydrological balance, precipitation was determined with a probability of excess of 75%, which can also be interpreted as the minimum value of precipitation that would be obtained in 7.5 years in a period of 10 years; in other words, only in 2.5 years out of 10, it is probable that precipitation events less than the expected value will occur.
