| Leaf scald is the most recent sugarcane disease reported in Colombia, in the regions of Codazzi in Cesar (December 1993) and Vegachí, Antioquia (March 1994). This disease has been present for several years in the neighboring countries of Panama, Venezuela and Ecuador. Until November 1994, the disease had not been observed in the Cauca River valley region; however, the possibility of its appearance in the near future cannot be ruled out due to the frequent exchange of personnel and equipment between affected areas and the rest of the country. |
