The publication constitutes a contribution to the country's agriculture, since it offers immediate and short-term actions to adapt irrigation to the climatic variability that occurs in prolonged periods of drought.
With the purpose of facilitating the adoption of different technologies to make a more efficient use of the water resource in the Cauca river valley by the sugarcane agroindustry, the Center for Research on Sugar Cane of Colombia, Cenicaña, edited a book whose content brings together 35 years of research on irrigation.
'Efficient management of irrigation in the cultivation of sugar cane in the geographical valley of the Cauca River' is the title of the publication that constitutes a contribution to agriculture and the environment in the country, since it proposes immediate and short-term actions , some of them at no cost to the grower, in order to adapt irrigation to climate variability that occurs in prolonged periods of drought, when the availability of water in sources is affected.
Cenicaña's research on water management has shown that if farmers adopt the technologies developed, they will be able to lower the volumes of water per hectare by up to 50%, a figure that can represent about 8900 m3 / ha / year.
“This book seeks to provide the technicians responsible for irrigation and sugarcane producers with a practical guide to procedures for the immediate solution of water management, which will translate into a more rational and sustainable use of resources and greater competitiveness of our region ”, says José Ricardo Cruz, Cenicaña researcher and author of the book.
