Dynamics of nutrient accumulation in sugarcane biomass

Nitrogen (N) is the nutrient that most limits the production of sugarcane in the soils of the flat part of the Cauca river valley.

So far the application of fertilizers has been recommended in two moments of the sugarcane cycle, when sowing at the bottom of the groove the application of phosphorus (P) and 45 to 50 days after sowing or cutting. Currently, in association with the area of physiology, the dynamics of absorption and accumulation of nutrients in the main commercial varieties are being studied. The results of this activity will allow to specify the appropriate moments of application of the fertilizers during the crop cycle. Additionally, the efficiency of use of the N of the main commercial varieties has been studied using a hydroponic system in the greenhouse.
