Technical Series Number 34, February 2004

Cenicaña defines site-specific agriculture (SSA) as the art of carrying out the agronomic practices required by a plant species according to the spatial and temporal conditions of the site where it is grown, in order to obtain its maximum potential yield.
According to this approach, precise knowledge of the agroecological characteristics of each cultivation site is used as basic information to guide the technological, productive and economic development processes of agro-industrial companies, which is complemented with technical information and commercial reference information on the productive activity.
To facilitate the adoption of the AEPS and through it improve the productivity and profitability of the sugar cane harvested by the sugar industry in the Cauca River Valley, Cenicaña is developing an information system that currently integrates interactive components available online through the Internet and Extranet.
This document presents the objectives taken into account for the design of the system, the steps followed for its development, the content of the online interactive media for user communication, and the IT infrastructure established at this stage of the process.
