Connecting science and agribusiness, October 27 to November 1, 2025

Activities that promote the adoption of technologies for a more productive and sustainable sugarcane agroindustry.

28th October 2025

Training in good environmental practices for agriculture

The main objective was to strengthen the knowledge and implementation of good environmental practices in agricultural work.

The day covered topics such as the proper separation of solid waste, the triple rinsing protocol for agrochemical containers, the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) for field activities, and understanding the carbon footprint.

The above is aligned with Cenicaña's mission and the sustainability of the agro-industry, seeking to optimize environmental management and promote a more responsible and conscious sugarcane farming.

Strengthening skills: training SENA instructors in sugarcane cultivation management

The workshop, led by researchers from the Agronomy and Varieties Programs, had the main objective of increasing and unifying the technical skills of SENA teachers in essential topics of sugarcane cultivation, including physiology, nutrition and integrated pest management.

This knowledge transfer not only updates trainers with the basic technologies for managing Cenicaña, but also fosters a multiplication of knowledge towards future professionals in the sector.

The impact of this collaboration is direct: improving technical appropriation to boost productivity and consolidate excellence in training in the agro-industry.

GTT: Productivity through nutrition and ripening in Risaralda

The day, which included the participation of the Cenicaña Agronomy Program, focused on optimizing productivity (TCH) and sucrose through nutritional and ripening strategies.

A key socialization session was held on the use of the Fertilization Expert System – sef version 3.0 to unify technical concepts and encourage its adoption, promoting the rational use of fertilizers and the prior application of amendments and organic materials.

In addition, pre-ripening practices with boron were presented as an effective tool to increase sucrose concentration, complementing existing ripening practices and ensuring higher yields for the agro-industry.

30th October 2025

Transfer and promotion of the Fertilization Expert System – sef version 3.0

At the event, staff from the Pichichí Sugar Mill, including technical assistants and zone managers, were instructed in the operational handling of the tool, and the essential technical concepts on nutrition and fertilization in sugarcane were unified.

This activity was carried out with the objective of encouraging the rational use of fertilizers, directly impacting the accuracy of agronomic recommendations by facilitating the expeditious and accurate interpretation of soil analyses (considering variables such as productive potential and extraction by variety), which optimizes nutrient management in the crop.
