Health Committee reviewed resolution setting measures for the control of Diatraea spp.

The meeting was held on March 28 at the Cenicaña facilities and was attended by professionals from the ICA

The Health Committee of the sugarcane agroindustry and suppliers of biological inputs met with professionals from the Colombian Agricultural Institute, ICA, to socialize the resolution that establishes phytosanitary measures in the cultivation of sugarcane for the control of species stem borers of the genus Diatraea.

With the issuance of this resolution, the pest begins to be considered official control, that is, the State will join economic, scientific and agronomic efforts to manage the pest on a national scale.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss some of the measures contemplated in the state document still in draft, in such a way that the final resolution takes into account the cultivation conditions in the Cauca river valley and the management of the pest. in the region, such as the harvest, the liberation programs for benefits and supplies, among others.

This resolution seeks to further promote the implementation of pest control measures by all farmers who plant sugarcane in the country and establish strict compliance obligations on their part, attending to verifications by them. of the phytosanitary authority, in this case the ICA.

The comments made will be reviewed for the official issuance of the resolution. The draft document will be available for consultation and comment until March 31, 2017 on the ICA website.
