Biotechnology: what are we doing?

One of the major interests of the sugarcane agribusiness is to implement biotechnological tools that support and accelerate the development of more productive varieties.

One of the major interests of the sugarcane agribusiness is to implement biotechnological tools that support and accelerate the development of more productive varieties.

To meet this challenge, Cenicaña dedicates time and resources to complement the conventional process, based on the selection of phenotypic characteristics, with the use of molecular markers, the isolation of genes and an efficient methodology for genetic transformation.

Although the Center's research in biotechnology dates back to the mid-XNUMXs, with the first studies to determine the genetic variability of cane varieties, the following Information letter makes a tour of the main events that have marked the lines of research in recent years: identification of genes of agronomic interest and genetic transformation, which are key to the development of genetically modified cane varieties.
