Cenicaña received the award for the GNSS RTK Network, a project developed with mills and growers in the region to improve the accuracy of agricultural work
The Colombian sugarcane agribusiness industry was recognized by the Valle del Cauca Governorate with the award 'Valley smart and innovative territory', in the category Sustainable rural valley, in a ceremony held yesterday December 12 in Telepacífico.
The recognition was granted to the Sugarcane Research Center of Colombia, Cenicaña, which participated in the call with the GNSS RTK Network project, a set of satellite navigation stations that correct in real time the planet's temporary space signals and with which the geolocation of precision agriculture equipment used in this productive sector is improved.
The award is a boost to the effort and joint work carried out by sugar mills, cane growers and researchers from Cenicaña for putting information technologies at the service of agriculture and thus being more sustainable and productive.
'Valle Intelligent and Innovative Territory' is an award created by the departmental government for Valle del Cauca companies in the knowledge and applied technology industry or who are taking advantage of the ICT opportunities for digital transformation. Other 10 companies in the region were also recognized in different categories.
Cenicaña extends its congratulations to the other winners for their commitment to innovation through information technologies.
More about the GNSS RTK Network
The evolution towards the technologies of geo-positioning for agricultural work requires conditions that guarantee precision and accuracy in time year after year. That is to say, that the precision agriculture equipment used receives location data or coordinates without errors greater than one inch (2.5 cm). This correction is provided by the GNSS RTK Network that today exists in the Cauca Valley at the service of the sugarcane agribusiness.
This network began operating at the end of the 2016 and today has 17 stations along the geographical valley of the Cauca River Valley (from Viterbo, in Caldas, to Santander de Quilichao, in Cauca). It currently covers 90% of the area planted with sugarcane, was financed with contributions from mills and farmers and is managed and operated by the Research Center.
