Sustainable agriculture in sugarcane
38 sugarcane suppliers met for a theoretical and practical workshop dedicated to promoting sustainable agricultural practices that improve productivity and protect the environment.
The activity was carried out in the Zainera and Balsora Estates, linked to the Mayagüez Sugar Mill, where attendees learned about and observed various techniques in the field, including:
- Waste management with 0x0 grounding.
- Planting cowpeas as cover and green manure.
- Compost application.
- Mechanized pivot sprinkler irrigation system.
- Sustainable fertilization in Mayagüez.
- Mayavin Application.
- Integra program.
- Use of Poten-T organic-mineral fertilizer.
The day allowed the growers to understand the benefits, advantages, challenges and costs of each practice, thus promoting the adoption of strategies that integrate productivity, resource efficiency and environmental sustainability.

Training in fertilization and nutrition of sugarcane crops
On August 6th, 2025, In Hacienda Balsilla, a technical training focused on the fundamental aspects of Nutrition and fertilization of sugarcane crops.
The day brought together 67 participants, among field staff, growers, and technical assistants from sugar mills, who strengthened their knowledge on key topics for more productive and sustainable agriculture.
During the training, the following topics were covered:
- Interpretation of soil analysis.
- Nutrient absorption curves.
- Use of green manures.
- Integration of beneficial microorganisms.
- Cultivation tasks that optimize the development of sugarcane crops.
The objective was strengthen technical capacities of attendees, providing them with solid criteria for making decisions that promote productivity and sustainability, making the most of the nutritional potential of the soil and the biology that inhabits it.

Gravity irrigation in the area of influence of the Cauca River, Manuelita Sugar Mill
