Cenicaña supported a training program for professionals in the sugar sector

Within the framework of an agreement between Asocaña and the Sena, training activities for industry professionals were carried out. Cenicaña researchers participated as lecturers.

Cenicaña, through the Agronomy and Factory Processes programs and the technical cooperation and technology transfer service, supported the realization of a series of courses that were offered to professionals in the sugar sector, as part of the cooperation agreement 00114 signed between Asocaña and the Sena to improve the performance and competitiveness of the industry.

The courses were held between November 24 and December 12 and had the participation, by Cenicaña, of Camilo Isaacs, Fernando Villegas and José Ricardo Cruz, who offered talks and practices on mechanized harvesting and water measurement systems .

The courses offered were the following:

  • Quality assurance of the sugarcane harvesting process complying with technical parameters.
  • Operation of sugarcane juice extraction equipment and process control in accordance with established procedures.
  • Operation of the steam thermal unit for the generation of electrical energy in sugar-energy plants.
  • Operation of water measurement systems for irrigation, in accordance with the needs of the sugar cane crop.

The activities were carried out at the Cenicaña Experimental Station and at Asocaña. Cenicaña also provided academic advice for the selection of international lecturers who participated in the courses.
