Participatory workshops with suppliers and mills

In order to design strategies that contribute to improving the adoption of technologies, Cenicaña held 6 participatory workshops using the World Café methodology.

The activities were organized by the Technical Cooperation and Technology Transfer Service, SCTT, and were carried out between the months of October and November.

Field superintendents and heads of supply from the sugar mills, growers who were members of the Procaña, Asocaña and Azucari boards of directors and personnel from Cenicaña's research programs attended.

Cenicaña, present at Expopanela 2016

On November 24, Cenicaña presented its contributions to the panelero sector during the country's main panela producers event.

The presentation was given by the plant breeder Carlos Arturo Viveros Valens, who opened the segment 'Innovation and Technological Development' and presented the results of the investigations carried out with the support of Corpoica in La Hoya del Rio Suárez (Santander) and the importance of replacing the variety RD 75-11, due to its high susceptibility to orange rust.

As a result of a cooperation agreement with Corpoica, between 2013 and 2014 Cenicaña delivered the varieties CC 93-7711 and CC 93-7510 to the panelero sector, which have been characterized by their production of panela and resistance to diseases of economic importance.

Students visit the Experimental Station

During 2016, more than 1500 people visited the Cenicaña Experimental Station in San Antonio de los Caballeros (Florida).

Most of the visits corresponded to students and researchers from different universities in the country, in order to receive technical and informative talks on different technologies.

Through this service Cenicaña contributes to the training of new generations of professionals and technicians, and to the dissemination of technologies with a site-specific agriculture approach (AEPS). More information about this service in: attention-of-visitors

Sugar mills carried out intercomparative quartz exercise

With the coordination of Cenicaña, on November 9 the X Intercomparative of Standard Quartz Polarimeters of the Colombian Sugar Sector was held.

The objective of the exercise was to estimate the individual and sectoral error of the standard quartz used in the calibration of the equipment, with which the content of sucrose in sugar and intermediate materials is declared.

The results of this activity allow the traceability of the sucrose measurement in the finished product to be demonstrated to quality seal certification bodies. This exercise is carried out annually with the participation of all mills, the International Sugar and Honey Marketer of the Colombian Sugar Industry (Ciamsa) and Cenicaña.
