This representative space of the Colombian sugar sector celebrates 36 years of history and culture.
1History
The Piedechinche hacienda takes its name because it is located very close to an indigenous settlement called Bug. It was there that one of the most important heroes of the Independence, José María Cabal, hid before being shot in Popayán.
2Fauna and Flora
In the Museum gardens they have been taxonomically identified and classified 330 introduced and native flora species, including heliconia, orchids, lilies, lotuses and acacias. They have also been classified 109 birds. Some of them are the well standing, squirrel cuckoo, bichofué, coclí, tile and heron.
3Itinerary
The Museum consists of 7 hectares, but the route covers 1.5 kilometers with 21 replica stations of ranches, sugar mills and objects associated with the milling and making of panela in the regions of Colombia.
4Visitors
About 35,000 people a year visit the place. Besides students, who are the majority of visitors, the Museum is frequented by people interested in botany, in history and mainly in the past, present and future of the sugar industry.
5Artworks
The Museum has a colonial house, sample of the architecture of the XVIII century and near 30 Paintings and religious figures adorn the Piedechinche hacienda. The vast majority correspond to the end of the XNUMXth century and the beginning of the XNUMXth century and are of Quito origin.
6Outreach
There are plans to turn the Museum into a interactive theme park, for which the first contacts have been made with entities specialized in the subject. The idea is to show from the sowing of the cane until it is converted into sugar, fuel alcohol and energy.
KEEP IN MIND
The Museum is open to the public every day from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
All visits are led by specialized guides in groups of approximately 20 people. The tours last an average of one hour and forty-five minutes.
