Detection of viruses and bacteria that cause diseases in sugarcane. The analyzes are performed on samples of leaf and rib tissue from seedbeds and commercial fields.

Schedule for sampling
Consider the following recommendations for sampling and sending to the Laboratory:
- Sample collection is carried out in crops aged between 7 and 9 months.
- One (1) sample is composed of 20 TVD sheets (first with visible neck), of which 30 cm are taken from the basal part.
- The number of samples depends on the type of crop and the area to be evaluated. Thus, for a representative sampling you should take: Seedbeds: one sample for every three hectares
Commercial Fields: one sample per five hectares
Make accounts: If the lot exceeds the indicated area, keep in mind that you must take more than one sample.
How are samples collected?
Detach the TVD sheet by holding the base with your thumb to protect the rib and prevent tearing photo (A) and then use the scissors to cut the first 30 cm from the basal part (B).
Record the identification data of the sample on a paper label:
- Sampling date
- Name of the mill or supplier
- Treasury and lucky number
- Lot area, variety and age
- Type of analysis
Put the paper label in a plastic bag to prevent damage to the moisture of the sheets (C).
Hold the sample (20 basal portions of TVD sheets) and its identification label with an elastic band, put everything in a plastic bag and close it to conserve moisture (D).
Place the sample in a icopor refrigerator and take it immediately to the Laboratory. Add refrigerant batteries only when you cannot deliver the sample the same day you took it (E).
Do not put the samples in direct contact with the refrigerant batteries, the leaf tissue may deteriorate.
Methodologies for pathogen detection
In the Laboratory of the Service of Diagnosis of Diseases the molecular techniques RT-PCR (detection of SCYLV and SCMV) and conventional PCR (SCBV, LSD and RSD) are used that offer qualitative results, as well as the TBIA serological methodology (RSD and LSD) which offers quantitative results (% incidence).
The grower is responsible for taking the samples and sending them to the Laboratory in the shortest possible time.
For the reception of the samples in the Laboratory it is essential that the user attach the respective form according to the type of analysis to be performed (main or optional).

Cenicaña has two locations for the reception of the samples, where it is attended by Monday to Friday between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm

This value applies to the diagnosis of each sample for each of the diseases of Rickets of Soca (RSD), Scalding of the Leaf (LSD), Yellow Leaf Virus (SCYLV), Bacilliform Virus (SCBV) and Mosaic Virus of the cane (SCMV).

WARNING. To ensure the reliability of the results obtained by the Cenicaña Disease Diagnostic Service Laboratory, it is essential that the foliar tissue samples submitted for analysis comply with all the requirements indicated in this brochure. Samples without the appropriate conditions may result in false positives or false negatives, and will only be accepted at the express request of the user and at your own risk. Samples without identification or with confusing data will not be processed.
